(Reynolds County) The Missouri Department of Conservation has agreed to a ban of feral hog hunting on federal land, including the Mark Twain National Forest.

Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe says he understands the problems feral hogs are causing farmers and other land owners.

Twelve years ago, Kehoe had 80 feral hogs on his farm where they trapped 32 and killed 32.

Kehoe understands there is a conflict right now between the conservation department and landowners.

The Lt. Governor says Missourians should give the department a chance to see if its new plan works.

And it very well could be working.

This week, the conservation department reported that the Missouri Feral Hog Elimination Partnership has eliminated close to a thousand hogs in the past two months.

One of those areas of hog elimination was in and around Johnson’s Shut-Ins State Park in Reynolds County.

The winter method of killing these hogs is by using the conservation department’s helicopter.
