A firefighter with the DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District, Ronald William Wehlage, Jr. of DeSoto passed away Tuesday, June 30, at the age of 40 years. Ron grew up in St. Louis where he went to school and attended St. Lucas United Church of Christ with his family. During that time, he was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America and was proud to be an Eagle Scout. He was a 22 year plus veteran firefighter and had been with the DeSoto Rural Fire Protection District for the past 18 years where he was currently serving as the District Lieutenant and Fire Marshall. Prior to his time at Desoto Rural he was a volunteer member of the Hillsboro Fire Protection District. He was a member of the Firefighters Association of Missouri, the Jefferson County Firefighters and Fire Marshalls Associations, the Professional Fire & Fraud Investigators Association, and the Ozark Firefighters Association. He was a talented carpenter and in his spare time, he enjoyed helping family and friends with building projects. He also enjoyed dirt track racing, camping, fishing, and boating.

He is survived by his father Ronald W. Wehlage, Sr. of Redbud, Illinois, two brothers Kevin Reese of Arnold, and Brian of Redbud, Illinois, several nieces and nephews, and numerous other relatives and many dear friends.

A graveside service with Honors for Ronald Wehlage Jr. will be held Wednesday (7/8) at 11 am at St. Lucas Cemetery in St. Louis.

Visitation will be Tuesday (7/7), from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Mahn Funeral Home in DeSoto. A Procession of Honor will follow the visitation at 8 pm on Main Street in front of the funeral home.
