MAAA Conference Tournament Girls’ Semis Preview

The girls’ semifinals of the MAAA conference tournament will take place Thursday night. In the first semifinal at 7 p.m., top seed Central (18-3) will take on five seed North County (11-9). On Monday, North County squeaked into this round with a 36-35 victory over Fredericktown in the quarterfinals, while Central defeated Arcadia Valley 54-14 in the previous round.

After his team’s game, Central head coach Josh Mapes outlined his plan for preparing for the semifinals.

In the other semifinal, two seed Farmington (18-3) will face three seed West County (18-3). Both teams won easily on Tuesday, as Farmington beat Ste. Genevieve by a score of 60-23 while West County knocked off Potosi, 55-30.

Farmington head coach Rusty Sancegraw praised his team’s ability to match up with any opponent and said he wanted to focus his practices on defense.

West County head coach Bobby Simily highlighted the Farmington team and noted that they share many qualities with his squad.

The winners will advance to the championship game at 7 p.m. on Saturday, while the losers will play in the third-place game at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
