MAAA Large-School Championship Could Be Decided Between North County And Farmington On J98

(St. Francois County) Conference championship implications are on the line when the North County girls basketball team heads to Farmington Thursday night on J98.

The 13-2 Knights are tied for 2nd in the MAAA Large-School Division and need a win Thursday night over the 12-3 Raiders to stay alive in the championship race.

Farmington, the 6th ranked team in Class 5, suffered their first loss in over a month-and-a-half Monday night when Central beat them 47-44. Junior Skylar Sweeney lead all scorers with 16 points in the game. Farmington coach Rusty Sancegraw says her hard work pays off.

Farmington had a look at a last second shot but ultimately the 44 points were the second lowest scoring output for the Knights this season. Sancegraw says defense keeps them in games.

North County can win the MAAA Large-School Division with a win Thursday night. The Raiders enter the game on a seven game win streak.

Senior Kamryn Winch averages a double-double of nearly 20 points and 20 rebounds per game but Raiders coach Joe Arnold gets contributions from everyone on the team.

Sancegraw was asked how to defend the six-foot-three Winch.

North County and Farmington will tip-off with a 7:15 Fliegs Equipment Pregame Show on J98 Thursday night. You can also stream the game at mymoinfo.com.
