MAAA Quarterfinals Day 2 Recap

Central 70 – 53 Potosi

In the first game of the day on the girls side of the MAAA Conference Tournament Quarterfinals it was the Central Rebels who defeated the Potosi Trojans by a final score of 70-53. It was a huge first half for the Rebels that gave them the lift they needed to coast to victory in the game…

Central head coach Josh Mapes says he was thrilled with the way his girls played through the first two quarters…

The win improves the Rebels to 17-4 on the season. They advance to the MAAA Conference Tournament Semifinals as they will take on the Farmington Knights on Thursday with tip-off scheduled for 5:30, and we’ll have coverage of that game beginning 15 minutes prior to the start on J98.

The loss drops the Trojans to 10-11. They fall to the MAAA Conference Tournament 5th Place Bracket and will square off with the Arcadia Valley Tigers Friday with tip-off scheduled for 5:30.

Farmington 43 – 38 Arcadia Valley

After falling to them by 23 points earlier in the season, the Farmington girls knocked off Arcadia Valley 43-38 in the MAAA quarterfinals. The entire game was played within a nine point margin with Farmington leading by only six and AV holding only a three point advantage. Down by a point Farmington scored the final six points of the third quarter and never trailed again….

Farmington survived its own 6 for 19 free throw shooting to hold off the Tigers. Coach Rusty Sancegraw talked about the difference in the two meetings with the Tigers…..

Jade Roth led Farmington with 10 points and Katie Whited (white-ed) scored 14 for AV. Farmington held Gracee Smith to 12 after surrendering 36 to the junior last time. Farmington, now 10-8 advances to the MAAA semis where they will play Central Thursday at 8:30 on J-98. Arcadia Valley falls to 13-8. They will play Potosi in the 5th place bracket Friday at 5:30.

North County 56 – 49 Fredericktown

The first boys game of the evening saw the North County Raiders topple the Fredericktown Blackcats by a final score of 56-49. The star of the game for the Raiders was the big man, Clayton Crow, who poured in 29 points and was named our Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game…

North County head coach Jimmy Palmer says Crow and Karter Kekec need to continue playing that type of complimentary game for their team to have success down the stretch…

The Raiders improve to 15-6 with the win. They advance to the MAAA Conference Tournament Semifinals and will take on the Ste. Genevieve Dragons on Friday with tip-off scheduled for 8:30, and we’ll have coverage of that game beginning 15 minutes prior to the start on J98.

Ste. Genevieve 69 – 65 Arcadia Valley

The Ste. Genevieve Dragon boys claimed the final spot in the MAAA semifinals with a 69-65 victory over Arcadia Valley. The Dragons turned a seven point deficit into a seven point lead with a 22-8 fourth quarter push. Logan Trollinger made sure the Tigers couldn’t turn it back around…

Trollinger finished with a game high 25 points and five three pointers. Ste. Genevieve coach Rob Coleman says the game turned when they cranked up the pressure, and they secured the win by not taking their foot off the pedal…

Ste. Genevieve improves to 12-9 after falling to the Tigers twice during the season. The Dragons will face North County in their semifinal Friday on J-98. Arcadia Valley falls to 10-9 and will look to rebound in the fifth place bracket Thursday against Fredericktown.
