MAAA Baseball Tournament Semifinals Begin Today

Four teams remain in the MAAA Baseball Tournament, and we’ll bring you both semifinal games on AM-800 KREI this evening. The first game will feature the top seed Valle Catholic Warriors, who are 28-1 on the season. They’ve won three straight following last week’s loss to Farmington, and defeated Potosi 16-1 to advance to the semifinals. Warriors manager Nathan Gegg shares what he’s seen from his team this season.

Valle Catholic will face the 4-seed Central Rebels this evening, who they beat 11-1 back in March. The Rebels have battled injuries and a tough schedule, but have some momentum following a 10-2 win over 5-seed West County on Tuesday. Central manager Ronnie Calvird expects a tough road the rest of the season.

The Rebels rematch with the Warriors is set to begin at 4:30. The nightcap will feature cross-county rivals Farmington and North County, who both pulled off upsets of top-3 seeds to advance to the semifinals. The 6-seed Knights have a couple of impressive wins in recent memory, including a 6-1 decision against 3-seed Ste. Genevieve on Tuesday and last week’s 5-4 win over Valle Catholic. Farmington Manager Logan Winder says his team has built up their confidence after a shaky middle of the season.

7-seed North County has seen the Knights before, and they won the previous meeting 6-3. The Raiders beat 2-seed Fredericktown 8-1, and manager Jacob Donze says playing smart could be the difference in the game today.

First pitch between Farmington and North County will be shortly after the conclusion of Game 1 between Valle Catholic and Central. Regional Radio’s coverage of the MAAA baseball tournament semifinals begins at 4:15 on AM-800 KREI.
