MAC Fighting Weather/Budget

(Park Hills) With area schools closing their doors this week due to bitter winter weather, Mineral Area College continues to work to make sure its campus is ready as soon as possible. President Dr. Joe Gilgour says even when school is out facilities and grounds workers put in some of the hardest work.

Mineral Area College, like many other colleges in the state, has struggled with decreased enrollment and dwindling funding. Dr. Gilgour had a chance to clarify the school’s mission recently to the state legislature.

MAC was forced to cut its theater major along with some music majors based on the numbers. Dr. Gilgour says he is still open to creative ways to restore some of those programs.

While MAC was forced to cancel classes for most of the week due to winter weather, the board of curators met in person yesterday Thursday.
