MAC Hoops Get Underway

(Park Hills) In the fall semester Mineral Area College participated in only one sport due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The men’s cross country team won their second straight national championship. The other sports are set to get under way this week and we’ll have live play by play of the season openers for men’s and women’s basketball and Cardinal volleyball.
The 20th ranked MAC men get out of the gate first with a road game at Lincoln Land in Springfield, Illinois Wednesday. The Cardinals are coming off of a 30-2 season and return at least three players and maybe four with one starting out on the injured list. Coach Luke Strege likes the composition of his team, but more than anything he’s just happy to get the season started…

Junior colleges have been limited to 22 games this year instead of 30…

Coach Strege says the challenge will be to play all the games within a condensed time frame…

Lincoln Land went 4-27 last year at the Division Two level. MAC beat the Loggers by 43 last year. We’ll be on the air with your Fliegs Equipment pregame show at 6:45 on KREI. On Friday we’ll broadcast the MAC volleyball opener against Northeast Oklahoma and on Saturday we’ll have the women’s basketball debut against Vincennes. Your home for Mineral College athletics is AM 800 KREI, J-98 and mymoinfo.com.
