MAC President Dr. Joe Gilgour Explains Cuts

(Park Hills) The Mineral Area College Board of Curators made the difficult decision recently to cut some faculty positions and programs in light of financial shortfalls exacerbated by the pandemic. MAC President Dr. Joe Gilgour joined us on the KREI morning show to tell us why the cuts were made..

The college cut nine full time faculty positions and four others as well as funding for the theater, agriculture, music and foreign language programs. Dr. Gilgour has been asked why they made the announcement now. The contracts require that notifications be made by the middle of January, plus faculty requested to be notified as soon as possible.

Dr. Gilgour says even with the cuts the shortfall isn’t completely covered. Gilgour says the cuts weren’t based on merit, rather according to interest in the classes…

Dr. Gilgour says the cuts don’t mean that all classes and activities will be eliminated in those fields…
