Major Renovation Coming to Iron County Jail & Sheriff’s Department Complex

(Ironton) The Iron County Commission and sheriff’s department has received some great news from the Missouri Department of Public Safety.

The County has been awarded a considerable amount of money to help pay for a project that has been long overdue.

In early 2022, Presiding Commissioner Jim Scaggs heard about a an opportunity just announced by the governor.

Scaggs says inmates and those working at the jail in Ironton won’t have to deal with extreme heat or extreme cold anymore.

We asked Scaggs if blind spots at the jail will be corrected, that have been used by a few inmates from time to time over the years, to make their getaway.

Commissioner Scaggs says they hope to ask for bids for the Iron County Jail Renovation Project soon and would like to see work begin, he says, hopefully by mid-summer.
