Maleak Brown sentenced to 35 years in prison

On Friday, Jefferson County Presiding Judge Brenda Stacey sentenced Maleak Brown of Barnhart to 35 years in prison. Brown was found guilty back in August of shooting and killing Marcus James of Festus at his apartment in June of 2022. Brown received 10 years for Voluntary Manslaughter, 15 years for Armed Criminal Action, 20 years for Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and 15 years for Armed Criminal Action. The voluntary Manslaughter and Unlawful Use of a Weapon are to be served concurrently. The two counts of armed criminal action are also to be served concurrently. However, the armed criminal action counts are to be served consecutively to the voluntary manslaughter and unlawful use charge for a total of 35 years.
