Man Convicted of Felonies in St. Francois County Dies in Bonne Terre Prison

(Bonne Terre) A man recently sent to prison, after being convicted of several felonies in St. Francois County court, has died at the Bonne Terre prison.

A news release from the Missouri Department of Corrections says 52-year-old Oscar Ortiz was first sent to prison this year on New Year’s Day.

Ortiz was convicted of second degree involuntary manslaughter, armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and unlawful use of a firearm.

Ortiz had just began serving his 61-year sentence.

The department of corrections says Ortiz died from what they call ‘apparent natural causes’.
