(myMOinfoSports) The West County Bulldogs took a step toward another final four appearance in the Class 1 state softball tournament after defeating the Clearwater Tigers 8-2 this afternoon on AM 800 KREI.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning after back-to-back singles from Ivy Meinershagen and Tristin Martin. Haylee Watson and Erica Barton drove in the next pair of runs in the third inning for West County extending its lead to 4-0. It wasn’t until the bottom of the 6th inning that Clearwater responded with RBI’s from Tabbie Carroll and Amy Holmes to cut the Bulldog lead to 4-2.

After a four spot in the top of the 7th inning thanks in big part to a Martin double to left field, the Bulldogs went up 8-2 heading into the final frame. West County’s Rikkilyn Wright ended the game with what she does best.
