Meramec Regional Planning Commission to Distribute Grant Money to Fire Departments in Three Counties

(Potosi) The Meramec Local Emergency Planning District received a $74,000 grant to purchase oil absorbent pads and booms for fire departments in seven counties including Crawford, Dent and Washington counties.

Booms and pads are deployed to absorb oil during hazardous material spills.

They keep chemicals from reaching waterways and environmentally sensitive areas.

Local fire departments receiving booms and pads….in Crawford County, the Bourbon Fire Protection District, Cuba Fire Protection District, Leasburg Community Volunteer Fire Department, Sullivan Fire Protection District and the Steelville Fire Protection District.

For Dent County, the Dent County Fire Protection District, Jadwin Volunteer Fire Department, Lenox Rural Fire Department, Quad County Fire Protection District in Viburnum and the Montauk Rural Fire Department and in Washington County, pads and booms were distributed to the Belgrade Volunteer Fire Department, Caledonia Fire Protection District, Irondale Fire Protection District, Potosi Fire Protection District and the Richwoods Fire Protection District.
