Mercy Jefferson named one of the best maternity hospitals in the country for a second time this year

(Jefferson County) For the second time in a year, an independent organization has named Mercy Hospital Jefferson one of the best maternity hospitals in the country.

U.S. and World Report listed Mercy Jefferson as one of its 237 best hospitals for maternity.

Earlier this year, Newsweek and the Leapfrog group named Mercy Jefferson to their best maternity hospitals.

Dr. Jacob Peyton is the chair of OB/GYN at Mercy Jefferson. He explains the factors that went into the rating.

Other than being rated as one of the best maternity hospitals in the country, Mercy Jefferson will soon be expanding and upgrading their birthplace unit by adding a new special care nursery for newborns.

Dr. Peyton says development of the new special care nursery will be getting underway at the beginning of the new year and should be completed sometime in the spring.
