Mine Rescue Team from Doe Run Company To International Competition After Winning Nationals

(Viburnum) Congratulations to the Doe Run Company’s Maroon Mine Rescue Team.

They just brought back to southeast Missouri some new hardware after taking the national title in “metal/non-metal mine rescue” and they placed second in the country in “metal combination”.

This was the 2022 National Mine Rescue Competition held in Lexington, Kentucky.

Steve Setzer of Dillard is the captain and trainer of the Maroon Team which he has led for several years now.

Setzer says mine rescue has become a family affair for him.

He tells us about his other national champion teammates.

Setzer and his Doe Run Company team have to keep their game-face on because they just left Friday morning for the biggest competition of them all and that’s the International Mine Rescue Competition in West Virginia.

The international competition takes place next week in Beckley, West Virginia. Setzer says back in 2010, he and the Doe Run Company’s mine rescue team was invited and they participated in the international competition in Australia.

The local mine rescue team was also invited to the international competition in Poland in 2014 but they had to decline participation in that one.

This year will be the third year overall that a Doe Run Company mine rescue team has been invited to a worldwide competition.
