(Jefferson City) Today, the Missouri Legislature passed a controversial ballot measure designed to overturn a redistricting process passed by voters in 2018.

Under the plan, a bipartisan commission would redraw legislative districts instead of a nonpartisan demographer.

During House debate, St. Louis Democrat Peter Merideth says the constitutional amendment would let politicians get back to manipulating the boundaries of their districts.

Republican Phil Christofanelli of St. Peters bloviated back.

A statement from a Clean Missouri organizer indicates a court battle could be ahead.

If the measure survives possible legal challenges, Missouri voters could decide on its fate in November.

Missourians passed the Clean Missouri legislation overwhelmingly in a bipartisan way two years ago.
