Missouri’s DESE Commissioner will visit a select number of schools in Jefferson County

(Hillsboro) Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Commissioner Dr. Margie Vandeven will celebrate Missouri School Read-In Day this Friday by reading to students in Jefferson County.

Commissioner Vandeven will be given a quick tour of each location before reading to a group of students.

She’ll begin the day by visiting preschool students at Taylor Early Childhood Center in the Dunklin R-5 School District, then seeing first grade students at Crystal City Elementary, and ending the day with kindergarten students from the Hillsboro R-3 School District.

Hillsboro Superintendent Dr. Jon Isaacson says they are excited about the visit.

The Missouri legislature designated the second Friday in March as Missouri School Read-In Day to increase awareness of the importance and benefits of reading.
