More valuables and guns stolen from unlocked vehicles

(Jefferson County) Car clotting cases are nothing new in Jefferson County and have become fairly common for many communities across the greater St. Louis region.

Local authorities have tried to counter act the increase in theft from vehicles by promoting good safety tips like making sure the public is keeping their vehicles locked and not leaving valuables unattended or in plain sight.

Crystal City Police Captain Mike Pruneau says people who don’t take these safety precautions can become easy victims for thieves.

Festus Police Chief Tim Lewis mentions they deal with the same problem.

In addition, authorities advise to never confront a group of car clotters or thieves as they are known to be armed and have fired at citizens who have confronted them in the past.

If you ever notice a car clotting group in your subdivision the best thing to do is immediately call the police.
