The Jefferson County Health Department confirmed on Thursday that mosquitoes collected in the Hillsboro area tested positive for the West Nile virus.

This marks the first positive case of West Nile in the county so far this year.

Darrough provides ways people can protect themselves from mosquitoes.

According to Darrough, Jefferson County had 36 cases of mosquitoes testing positive for the West Nile virus in 2018.
