Murder Trial Is Set for Centerville Man

(Steelville) A man from Centerville, facing first degree murder, armed criminal action and two unlawful use of weapon felonies out of Reynolds County, has a date now for his jury trial.

44-year-old Jason W. Baker is accused of shooting and killing the mother of his 9-year-old and 7-year-old sons at the woman’s Centerville home in June of 2021.

After the shooting, Baker allegedly took off with the boys which led to authorities issuing an Amber Alert.

The boys were eventually found safe with Baker.

That’s when he was arrested.

On a change of venue to Crawford County, Baker’s murder trial is scheduled for May 3rd, 4th and 5th of next year at the courthouse in Steelville.

Baker’s last chance to strike a plea deal with the prosecution before the trial is January 17th.
