National Safe Boating Week is May 16-22

(Jefferson County) With Memorial Day unofficially kicking off boating season nationwide, National Safe Boating Week is held May 16th through the 22nd.

Corporal Juston Wheetley with the Missouri State Highway Patrol says troopers will be out on the waterways conducting boat safety inspections.

Corporal Wheetley reminds people to never operate a vessel while under the influence as drinking alcohol affects a person more so on the water than land.

In Missouri any person born after January 1st of 1984 must successfully pass a Missouri Boater Education class before operating any motorized vessel on state lakes.
