(Cadet) It was a terrific week for the Kingston girls basketball team, and to no surprise, it was also a terrific week for their star player.
Cougars’ standout Madison Nelson helped lead the team to three wins and stuffed the stat sheet to the brim en route to being named our Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.
Kingston girls hoops head coach Christian Moulton says Nelson showed all the different ways she can impact the game this week.
In the team’s three wins this past week, Nelson averaged 28 points per game, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 8 steals, and 1.6 blocks.
She also played all 32 minutes against Lesterville and all 36 minutes in the overtime win against Jefferson in which she poured in 34 points.
Nelson has showcased her tremendous ability to put the ball in the hoop over the past few seasons, but coach Moulton says he is most impressed by her continuous progression and focus on becoming a more well-rounded player.
Nelson broke 1000 career points as just a sophomore last year and is already the career record holder for points scored by a girls basketball player at Kingston, but all the success has not changed her work ethic.
Moulton says that desire to continue to improve is what has the chance to separate Nelson from other great players.
As Athlete of the Week, Nelson will receive a T-shirt, a certificate, and a coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
