New Festus emergency sirens were put to the test during recent storms

The City of Festus had recently installed two new emergency sirens, which were certainly used for the first time after the Saturday night weather incidents. Festus City Administrator Greg Camp says the two sirens provide coverage for the entire city and even can be heard in the neighboring communities.

Camp says adding new and updated weather sirens can make a huge difference in warning the residents.

The sirens sounded just prior to the EF1 tornado that touched down near Crites Memorial Park and then traveled into Herculaneum. The tornado caused some damage to the area in the form of downed trees and electric wires causing some power outages in the city. Meanwhile, Herculaneum suffered perhaps more widespread damaged trees, damage to homes and businesses and the Kade’s Playground pavilion collapsing.
