New MAC Men’s Basketball Coach Greg Heiar on New Challenge
(Park Hills) What do you do when the basketball season is four months away and you have an empty roster? You hire a guy that built a championship team in only one year. Greg Heiar did just that at Northwest Florida State, where he was the national coach of the year two years ago. Coach Heiar says he’s drawing on all his connections to assemble a roster at Mineral Area College in Park Hills…

Heiar has won over 200 games with an 85% success rate.
Mineral Area College is also giving Heiar a second chance to lead a team after he was dismissed at Division One New Mexico State. The Aggies halted their program after 24 games last year in the wake of a hazing incident. Earlier in the season one of Heiar’s players was suspended after he shot and killed someone in what was ruled self defense. He’s grateful for the opportunity…

We asked coach about his formula for winning, and it’s not just about making buckets…

He says everyone wants to run, but the great teams can win the grinders…

Heiar has worked with and for a number of highly successful coaches in the college game…

Park Hills Central guard Mason Williams became Heiar’s first signee last week.
