NexGen Surface Mining Permit Pulled

The Missouri Court of Appeals agreed with state mining regulators to pull a permit allowing sand mining in Ste. Genevieve County. The NexGen Silica application to mine the silica sand on 250 acres near Highway 32 was incomplete according to the Missouri Mining Commission. Local residents were fearful the operation would destroy the land near Hawn State Park and possibly taint the water systems. At this point, it is unknown if NexGen Silica will re-apply for the surface mining permit.
