No 2020 American Legion baseball season in Missouri

There will be no American Legion baseball in the state of Missouri this summer.

The decision was made to call off the 2020 season Thursday.

This comes on the heels of the American Legion announcing it will not hold its annual baseball World Series in Shelby, North Carolina.

Junie Basler is the head coach of Ste. Genevieve Post 150.

He says it’s sad day for himself and his players.

Basler says it hurts in particular for the players who were heading into their final season with Post 150.

Ste. Genevieve won the District championship last season to earn a bid to the state tournament.

Zac Bone is the head coach of Festus Post 253.

He says while the decision is disappointing, it was something he thought might be coming.

Despite a lost year, Bone is excited about what Post 253 can do when the 2021 season rolls around.

Festus Post 253 finished runner-up in the 2019 Missouri state tournament and earned a bid to the Legion World Series, where it finished 1-2.
