North County Boys Rode Fast Start to Big Win over Central on J98

(Bonne Terre) The North County boys basketball team played one of their best games of the season on Friday night as they defeated conference rival Central 72-54 on J98.

The win marked the first time that the Raiders defeated the Rebels in two years and snapped Central’s five-game win streak in the series.

It was a fast start for North County as they led 19-13 at the end of the first.

Then a big run to start the second gave the Raiders the breathing room they needed to take command of the game.

North County kept the Rebels at an arm’s length the rest of the first half and took a 38-21 lead into halftime.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Raiders extended the lead in the third and cruised to victory in the fourth.

North County’s Kyle Conkright and Karter Kekec were named the Applebee’s of Farmington Players of the Game as they finished with 22 and 20 respectively.

Raiders’ head coach Jimmy Palmer says a win against Central is always sweet and that the great crowd on hand certainly galvanized his team.

North County improves to (11-1) overall and (2-0) in MAAA Large School Division play and will next be on the road against DeSoto on Tuesday.

Central falls to (10-5) and (1-2) in MAAA Large School Division play and will travel to Cape Girardeau on Tuesday to take on Cape Notre Dame.
