(BONNE TERRE, Mo.) – The North County Raiders girls basketball team had to hold on for dear life at the end but nonetheless got an impressive 54-47 home win against the Festus Tigers Monday. Junior forward Kayleigh Winch started making shots right off the bat for the Raiders.

North County led by eight points at halftime and then 14 points after three quarters thanks to Ella Gant’s 10 points in the third. But in the fourth, Festus started making a move with an 18-2 run led by Abby Rickermann and Jenna Oetting.

But the Raiders eventually staved off the comeback and took the lead again, with Ashley Thomas coming off the bench for the Gilster Mary Lee Play of the Game.

Gant earned Applebee’s Player of the Game honors with 15 total points. Raiders coach Zac McVey said this win showed how much his team has grown this year.

The Tigers’ loss dropped them to 17-4 and snapped a 10-game winning streak, while the Raiders improved to 14-7. Festus turns its attention to a home game against Perryville Wednesday with the JCAA Large School conference title on the line. North County will host West County on Wednesday.
