North County Girls Tennis Begins Sectional Play this Weekend after Capturing District Title

(Bonne Terre) The North County Raiders girls tennis team remained undefeated in team play on the season as they captured the Class 1 District 2 Championship on Tuesday, their first since 2013.

Head coach Courtney Kemp says the team had extra motivation coming into this season after coming up short in the playoffs last year.

Any district hardware means a great deal to a program, especially one that had not won in several years.

Kemp says this one is particularly special because the team is made up of several girls who were new to the sport of tennis and have worked relentlessly to continue to improve.

While the North County girls tennis team has advanced to the sectional round of the state tournament, the Raiders also have a pair of doubles teams who qualified individually.

The sister tandem of Lauren and Hanna Politte are one set while Juli Farr and Kate Jones are the other.

The Raiders’ doubles teams will compete in the individual sectionals Saturday morning starting at 10 with the matches to be played at North County High School.

The team sectional match takes place on Monday morning when the 14-0 Raiders travel to Cape Girardeau to take on the 12-1 Cape Notre Dame Bulldogs beginning at 10.

Should North County win that match, they will face the winner of Lutheran South and Ursuline Academy in the quarterfinals beginning at 1 in the afternoon.
