(Bonne Terre) Lucy Pace from North County High School was chosen as this week’s Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.
The senior tennis player earned 5th place at the Class One state singles tournament in Springfield last weekend. Pace qualified, but failed to place, at the state tournament her junior season. But she says that experience helped her out this time around.
Pace lost her opening match to Iris Alvarez from Savannah High School. After that loss, she says her survival instincts kicked in.
Pace also finished 2nd at the state doubles tournament during her sophomore season with partner Kate Jones. They fell to teammates Lauren and Hannah Politte in the title match. Pace helped the North County team win four consecutive district titles. Her coach throughout her high school career, Courtney Stufflebean, had a piece of advice that stuck with Pace.
Pace had a record of 21-2 in singles matches this season. As Athlete of the Week, she received a t-shirt, certificate and a coupon for a free entrée at Applebee’s in Farmington.
