North County Upsets Ste. Genevieve and Central Tops Farmington in Girls MAAA Semifinals

North County 52 – 34 Ste. Genevieve

(Park Hills, Mo.) The North County Lady Raiders are headed to the championship game of the MAAA Conference basketball tournament with a 52-34 win over the Ste. Genevieve Lady Dragons tonight at Mineral Area College. In the first semi-final game heard on J-98, North County took the lead early and kept it the entire game.

North County’s Kamryn Winch was named the Applebee’s of Farmington player of the game, leading the Raiders’ scoring with 14 points.

Raiders’ head coach Zac McVey says he’s pleased with his team.

North County improves to 16-4 and will face Central in the championship game on Saturday at 7. Ste. Genevieve suffers their first loss of the season and falls to 19-1 and will face Farmington in the 3rd place game.

Central 46 – 23 Farmington

In the second game of the evening, the Central Lady Rebels advanced to the championship game for the second year in a row after defeating the Farmington Knightettes 46-23. Central led the entire game, with Sophia Horton leading the scoring for Central with 22 points.

Sophia Horton was named the Applebee’s of Farmington player of the game.

Central improves to 18-4 while Farmington falls to 10-9. Central will meet North County in a re-match of last year’s championship game on Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 o’clock.
