North County’s Kekec Discusses Return from Injury and Selection as Co-Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Bonne Terre) It has been a thrilling month and a half for the North County boys basketball team with the return of their senior standout Karter Kekec.

After a broken tibia sidelined him for the first half of the season, Kekec returned to the lineup in the new year and guided the team to nine-straight wins, an MAAA regular-season crown, and has been named one of our Applebee’s of Farmington Athletes of the Week.

He says he is so happy to be back out on the court.

In North County’s three wins last week, Kekec was terrific.

He averaged 20 points per game, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 6 rebounds.

Kekec’s significant leg injury occurred in the district championship football game against Festus on November 13th and there was a possibility that he would miss most of basketball season.

Instead, he went to work rehabbing and was able to return months ahead of the timeline the doctors had laid out.

He says it was incredibly challenging.

The Raiders have been rolling this year at (17-1), and Kekec’s return in the new year has made a dangerous team even more lethal.

He says the success can be credited to the team’s willingness to buy in to head coach Jimmy Palmer’s gameplan.

As one of our Athletes of the Week, Kekec received a T-shirt, certificate, and coupon good for one free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
