North County’s Kekec to MAC For Two Sports

(Bonne Terre) Some of us have a hard enough time picking what college to go to. North County’s Karter Kekec not only had to make that decision, but he also had to choose what sport to play. A three sport standout for the Raiders; Karter was at least able to narrow it down to two. Kekec will play baseball and basketball for Mineral Area College next year…

Kekec missed the first half of his senior basketball season after suffering a broken tibia in football. He returned to the hardwood in early January and averaged 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals per game while shooting 40% from beyond the arc and 80% from the free-throw line. He helped lead the Raiders to a (24-2) record, MAAA title, Class 5 district championship and the school’s first ever sectional win.
In baseball this year Karter hit .394 with a .464 on base percentage, while playing mostly shortstop.
He says there are several great reasons to attend MAC, but he knows he’ll have to work hard…

His high school basketball coach Jimmy Palmer says Karter’s best basketball is ahead of him…

Karter follows his older sister Kourtney to Mineral Area College where she played basketball before moving on to Division One UT-San Antonio…

Karter will study education and hopes to become a history or P.E. teacher and coach.
