(CEDAR HILL) The Northwest girls wrestling program has done great things this season like being undefeated in duals, finishing 1st as a team in a couple of small tournaments, and most impressively being champions of the 48-team Wonder Woman Tournament at Battle High School in Columbia on Saturday.

Head coach Ron Wilhelm puts into perspective just how big winning the Wonder Woman tournament is for the team.

A pair of Lions wrestlers that performed well during the tournament are both freshmen. They are Sophia Peirick, who finished 3rd in the 131 lb weight division, and Maddie Stichling, who took 4th place at 167. Sophia was able to win by pin. She talks about what it’s like to be on the mat and in the circle every day competing.

Maddie also won her match by pin. Her post-victory meal choice from Freddy’s…

Maddie has loved the ride so far as a Northwest wrestler.

Without a single senior on the squad, coach Wilhelm says that Sophia and Maddie are setting an example for what Northwest wrestling is all about.

The Lions took first place in the Wonder Woman Tournament by 42 points over the 2nd place team. Northwest is back at it Wednesday at 5 p.m. as Seckman pays a visit.
