(FESTUS) A 6-run Northwest rally in the top of 7th helped the Lions to a 15-7 victory over the Festus Tigers in softball Wednesday evening on AM 1400 KJFF.

Festus actually held a 2-0 lead after the first inning behind RBI’s from Morgan Green and McKenna Templeton. In the top of the 2nd, Northwest jumped on an opportunity with two runners aboard, down by 1, and Ella Stichling at the plate.

Festus tied it up at three in the bottom of the 2nd on an RBI ground out by Kristina Mack. It stayed 3-3 until the top of the 5th when the Lions pushed across 5 runs, with the biggest hit coming from Jaime Lee.

Down 9-4 in the bottom of the 6th, the Tigers began mounting their comeback.

However, things turned for the worse in the top of the 7th as the Lions pulled away with three home runs.

The Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game went to Maddie Welker who drove in 4 on the night and earned the save. Lions head coach Dan Davison was complimentary of the way his girls played.

Northwest improves to 2-0 to start the season and will host Pacific on Thursday at 4:30 at their newly renovated softball field. The Festus Tigers drop to 0-2 and will play this weekend in the Cape Notre Dame Tournament in Cape Girardeau beginning Friday with East Carter in Game 1 and Magnolia Heights, Mississippi in Game 2.

The next softball game on AM 1400 KJFF will be next Wednesday at 4:30 as Farmington takes on Hillsboro. That game can also be heard on AM 800 KREI.
