(De Soto) A 26-year-old O’Fallon man could be facing charges after he allegedly tried to pay with counterfeit bills at the Casey’s gas station in De Soto and then tried to rob the store before reportedly getting away with a small amount of stolen items.

De Soto Police Chief Jeff McCreary says the incident occurred during the early morning hours of November 23rd.

According to Chief McCreary, the clerk thought the man was carrying a firearm.

When De Soto Police arrived on scene, the suspect had already left the area.

It wasn’t until November 27th when Festus Police were able to catch up and arrest the suspect.

De Soto Police are currently working with the Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office with filing charges of first-degree robbery.
