One Jefferson County Municipality has internet use tax pass while others are voted down

(Jefferson County) Several municipalities in Jefferson County had a local “use tax” for internet sales on Tuesday’s election ballot. However, only one use tax measure passed and that was in Crystal City.

City Administrator Jason Eisenbeis says it’s going to take some time before the city gets to use the money generated.

Crystal City voters approved the measure by 51 percent.

In neighboring Festus, City Administrator Greg Camp says voters turned down the use tax by more than 56 percent.

Voters in Arnold turned down the use tax with 75 percent of the vote, Byrnes Mill with 55 percent, De Soto with 58 percent, Herculaneum with 61 percent and Pevely with 60 percent of the vote.
