Opening Weekend Deer Harvest Numbers Down Due to Weather

(Jefferson County) The opening weekend of the November firearms portion of deer hunting season has come and gone.

Hunters were greeted with a super soaker of a Saturday as thunderstorms strolled through the region and a windy, but sunny Sunday.

John Winkelman is the host of the Scenic View on KJFF. He has the unofficial opening weekend totals.

However, the weather has since rebounded and harvest numbers continue to go up across the state.

So far more than 1,200 deer have been harvested this firearms season in Jefferson County, more than 1,800 in Franklin County, more than 900 in St. Francois and Ste. Genevieve Counties, and more than 1,100 in Washington County.

The November firearms portion of deer hunting season continues through Tuesday, November 24th.
