Ozzie Smith joins celebration of Negro Leagues’ 100th anniversary

Last week, celebrities and baseball stars from all over participated in the social media campaign #TipYourCap2020, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Negro Leagues.

Hall of Fame Cardinals shortstop Ozzie Smith was among those who joined in, posting a video talking about his gratitude towards the first professional black baseball players.

He discussed the topic more on KJFF Sports Talk Monday afternoon.

The hashtag campaign was started by the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City and its president Bob Kendrick to raise awareness of 100 years since the first league was formed by Midwestern owners during a meeting in KC.

Negro Leagues existed for 40 years and were the first professional home of baseball stars like Satchel Paige, Cool Papa Bell, and Jackie Robinson.
