Perryville Boys Soccer Begins Quest To Make It Back To State Championships

(Perryville) The Perryville Pirates soccer program has been a powerhouse under head coach Jerry Fulton, and last year was nothing different. Fulton took the girls team to the state semifinals for the first time in school history and came away in 4th place. The boys, however, earned a state championship in 2014 and finished in 2nd place in the state last season.

The Pirates began play at the Greg Kline Invitational last weekend to open their season and came away with a 2-1 record, good for 2nd place. Fulton tells us how his team performed.

The Pirates graduated six seniors from last year’s squad, including Dream Team Player of the Year Dayton Strattman and fellow Dream Teamers Ty Baudendistel and Dillon Schlimpert. Fulton says he did keep one area of his lineup intact.

That’s a lot of playmakers in the lineup to replace. Fulton says a strong group of underclassmen and multiple players returning with varsity experience will help get the Pirates back to the promised land.

Fulton thinks that could change the way opposing teams prepare for Perryville.

With Baudendistel out of the picture, Fulton says there are two possible replacements in net.

Perryville has a record of 2-2 after a 3-2 loss to Cape Notre Dame last Tuesday night. The Pirates’ next game is scheduled for Tuesday, September 6th at North County.
