Perryville Spoils Windsor’s Comeback Attempt

(Perryville) The Perryville Pirates are hoisting their colors after a 28-20 victory over the Windsor Owls Friday night. The Owls showed their talons early on in the matchup, and scored first after budding star Jordan Foster got into open space.

The Owls would miss the extra point and the Pirates would take the lead on their ensuing possession. Rilaynd (Rye-land) Graham, a 5-foot-5 sophomore, got the start for the Pirates on Friday as Aiden McGarvey was unable to play. Even though he was the smallest guy on the field, he made some big plays.

The Pirates had trouble containing Nolan Hirth all night, and the Owls took the lead back before halftime through the air.

After halftime, Deven Lukefahr gave no quarter to the Owls as he tallied off 3 straight unanswered touchdowns.

Nolan Hirth would throw a quick slant touchdown to inch the game closer. The Owls would get the ball back with 1:05 left and would make things interesting, driving down to the redzone with seconds to spare. However, the Perryville defense held strong and Windsor ran out of time to complete the comeback.

Perryville Head Coach Brent Roth says it feels good to get his first win as a head coach at his alma mater.

Deven Lukefahr was the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game. Rushing for 122 total yards with 119 in the second half. Roth had a lot of praise for the senior running back.

Next week Perryville faces off against Central while Windsor travels to Festus.
