Perryville’s Smith named Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week

(Perryville) Perryville Pirates sophomore Grant Smith is the Applebee’s of Farmington Athlete of the Week.

Smith got his 2022 baseball season off to a flying start.

In leading Perryville to season-opening wins over Scott City and Doniphan, Smith finished with 7 hits in 8 at-bats, including a triple, 2 runs scored, 4 runs batted in and 3 stolen bases.

Smith also got the pitching victory against Scott City, allowing just one hit and one unearned run in 5 2/3 innings and striking out 9 batters.

Pirates head coach Matt Schonhoff  says this type of success has been building up for Smith.

Perryville has a chance to match its win total from all of last season with a 3-0 start to the season.

As Athlete of the Week, Grant Smith receives a T-shirt, a certificate and a coupon for a free entree at Applebee’s in Farmington.
