Additional revenue for the Pevely Police Department will be coming after the passage of Proposition Public Safety during Tuesday’s General Municipal Election. Pevely City Administrator Andy Hixson says the funds generated from the sales tax will start to come in this fall, and they can budget for the department improvements and additional officers for next year’s budget.
The proposition calls for a reduction in property taxes for residents in Pevely, and the sales tax would be implemented for all visitors who spend dollars in the city. Hixson says hiring new officers could come sooner than later.
Proposition Public Safety passed with nearly 69 percent of the vote with 307 “yes” votes compared to 140 “no” votes.
