Possible Civic Center in DeSoto

(DeSoto) The City of DeSoto and the DeSoto School District have been looking into the possibility of developing a Community Civic Center. DeSoto City Manager Todd Melkus says he was approached by the school district several months back about the idea.

Melkus says there is an ideal location on Vineland School Road.

The proposed civic center will include a weight room, indoor track, indoor pool, racquetball, and more. The Jefferson Memorial Foundation awarded a grant to the DeSoto School District of over 25-thousand dollars for the feasibility study. Residents of DeSoto and the surrounding area can fill out a survey online at Survey Monkey dot com, and they can click on the link on the City of DeSoto Facebook page. Melkus is hopeful to get additional grant funding from the Jefferson Foundation later this year.
