For the first time in school history, the Potosi Trojans softball team is a district champion after the Trojans knocked off the Ste. Genevieve Dragons 10-4 in the District 5 title game Wednesday night on J98. The Trojans actually trailed 2-0 when, as the youngsters have all season, a sophomore stepped up in the third inning.

Sophomore Sydney Litton stroked a 2-run single in the very next at-bat as part of a 6-run frame. Litton would have one more big knock, as she put the game away with the Gilster Mary Lee Drive of the Game.

Litton was our Applebee’s Player of the Game, but freshman pitcher Sami Huck had a strong day as well after allowing just 2 earned runs on 5 hits and striking out 7 in a complete-game win. Despite such youth, Trojans head coach Tyler Beers says his team is poised, prepared and ready for a challenge.

While the season comes to an end for Ste. Gen at 15-7, the Dragons do set a program record for wins. The Trojans are now 18-1 and will look to validate their top ranking in Missouri when the state tournament begins with the sectionals Monday against the yet-to-be-determined champion of District 6.
