Potosi Falls To Houston, 9-4, In Class 2 District 3 Championship On KREI

(Potosi) The Potosi Trojans’ season came to an end on Wednesday in the Class 2 District 3 softball championship game. The Houston Tigers won by a score of 9-4 at the Trojan Recreation Complex.

Houston sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the first and scored four runs in the process.

Potosi had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the first, but back-to-back strikeouts ended their chances of scoring.

The Tigers tacked on one more in the second to take a 5-0 lead when senior Katie Chipps hit her sixth home run of the season.

Potosi freshman pitcher Shannon Riddle battled back to retire six consecutive batters over the third and fourth innings, and the bats followed suit. Junior Gracie Lawson and freshman Kalle Logsden recorded RBI doubles in the third and fourth, respectively, and sophomore Ava Wright brought around two runs in the fourth.

Base running gaffes turned into fielding errors for Potosi. The Trojans committed five errors over the next three innings leading to four more Houston runs. Chipps went deep in the sixth inning for her second homer of the game.

Potosi had runners on the corners with one out in the fifth, but a six-four-three double play by the Tigers was the final straw in Potosi’s scoring opportunities.

Potosi graduates three seniors: Emily Hochstatter, Danielle King and Jade Williams. Coach Mariah Coleman talks about them, starting with King.

Williams went 3-for-4 and King 1-for-3 with a walk.

Four Tigers combined for all nine hits. Chipps and senior Rhease Manier each had four RBI. Senior Aliyah Walker went 2-for-4 and junior Kelsey Pritchett was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Potosi ends their year at 10-16. Houston are 17-4.
