Potosi Lady Trojans Beat Steelville In Overtime Thriller On J98

(Potosi) The Potosi Lady Trojans took down the 9th ranked team in Class 3 Steelville Lady Cardinals 61-56 in an overtime thriller on J98 Tuesday night.

Potosi scored the first points of the game but Steelville quickly took the lead and didn’t gave it up until late in the fourth quarter.

With the game tied at 49 and Potosi with the ball in the final seconds, sophomore Paige West had a chance to win it at the buzzer but her jumper was off the mark.

The Lady Trojans carried their momentum into overtime with some big buckets in the paint.

With her team leading by three and seven seconds to go, Potosi junior Kalie Thompson went to the free throw line and knocked in both freebies. Steelville had one final chance.

Potosi outscored Steelville 27-14 in the final two periods. Thompson was named the Applebee’s of Farmington Player of the Game with 12 points including eight in overtime.

Potosi improves to 8-4. Their losses are to South Iron, West County and Central Park Hills twice, all teams that are ranked in the top ten in their respective classes. Coach Allie Golden tells us how it feels to finally get a win against a top-ranked team.

The Lady Trojans return to the hardwood Thursday against Sullivan. Steelville drops to 9-5 and will play St. James Thursday.
