Potosi Softball Looking For Third District Title In Four Seasons, Will Play Houston Tigers On KREI

(Potosi) For the third time in four seasons, the Potosi Trojan softball team will be playing for a district championship. We’ll broadcast the Class Two District Three championship game Wednesday afternoon between Potosi and the Houston Tigers on AM-800 KREI.

Potosi are just 10-15 on the year but the Trojans earned the top seed in the district in part to playing a very difficult schedule. They’re latest test came in the district semifinals in a 4-3 win over Salem on Monday. Coach Mariah Coleman tells us how the Trojans pulled out the win despite giving up two runs in the top of the seventh.

Freshman Shannon Riddle tossed a complete game to go with six strikeouts. The top four hitters in Potosi’s lineup went a combined 7-for-14 with four RBI and three runs scored. Coleman says the Trojans wanted to be aggressive at the plate.

Houston are the two seed and have a record of 16-3. The Tigers beat Steelville 11-1 Tuesday afternoon in the semifinals. This is the first known meeting between Potosi and Houston.

Coverage from the Trojan Recreation Complex begins at 3:45 on AM-800 KREI. First pitch is scheduled to be at 4 o’clock.
