Potosi Takes Third in State Softball Tournament
(SPRINGFIELD, MO) The Potosi Trojans softball team finished third in the state tournament in Springfield Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Mount Vernon Mountaineers 2-1. In the game heard on KREI, Mount Vernon scored first with one run in the top of the third, but Potosi came back in the bottom of the fourth to tie the score with our Patsy’s Furniture play of the game.
That was after a wild set of circumstances at second base that caused Potosi’s Emma Eaton to be called out for runner’s interference on a play that would have allowed Sami Huck to score on a fielder’s choice grounder by Hannah Jarvis. Then in the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Jaci Short put the Trojans ahead with our Gilster Mary-Lee drive of the game.
Sami Huck was our Applebee’s of Farmington player of the game. Potosi head coach Tyler Beers says with the core of his team coming back next year, they’re ready to make another run at the state title.
Potosi finishes their season at 21-2 taking third place in the state tournament, their best finish in softball in school history.
